Case in Karnataka against BJP MP and 20 others about Savarkar nameplate and Hanuman flag

A legal complaint has been lodged against 21 individuals, inclusive of BJP Member of Parliament Anantkumar Hegde and former MLA Sunil Naik, in connection with the installation of a nameplate bearing the name of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and the hoisting of a Hanuman flag in the vicinity of Tenginagundi port, situated within Bhatkal in the Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka.

The BJP members, under the leadership of Hegde and Naik, undertook the installation of Savarkar's nameplate and the raising of the Hanuman flag on Monday, March 4, without securing proper authorization from the local panchayat, thereby prompting the filing of the case.

This incident follows a similar confrontation between BJP workers and local authorities in January 2024, when the latter took down the nameplates of VD Savarkar and a saffron flag near Tenginagundi Beach.

Police sources reveal that the removal of the nameplate and saffron flag occurred due to the failure of BJP workers to obtain permission from the gram panchayat beforehand.
