CCTV shows a Karnataka woman beating her 87-year-old father-in-law with a walking stick

In an unsettling incident that unfolded on March 9 in Karnataka's Mangaluru, a woman, identified as Uma Shankari, an officer with the Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB), was captured on CCTV footage striking her 87-year-old father-in-law with his own walking stick within the confines of their residence.

The distressing footage portrays Uma brandishing the walking stick confrontationally while engaging in a heated exchange with Padmanabha Suvarna, her elderly relative. Despite his pleas and attempts to fend off the onslaught, Padmanabha finds himself subjected to repeated blows from Uma, eventually leading to his fall after a forceful push by her.

As Padmanabha collapses, Uma momentarily contemplates further violence but refrains from carrying out her actions, opting instead to retreat from the room, leaving the elderly man in a state of anguish on the floor.

The motives behind Uma's aggressive behavior towards her father-in-law remain unclear, adding to the gravity of the situation. Following the incident, Padmanabha sustained severe injuries necessitating his admission to a private hospital, prompting his daughter to file a formal complaint with the authorities.

Subsequently, Uma was apprehended by law enforcement officials and placed under judicial custody for 14 days as investigations into the matter proceeded, highlighting the swift response of the authorities in addressing this distressing case of domestic violence against an elderly individual.
