Congress report criticizes Sukhvinder Sukhu's "ignorance" but provides support until elections

Following the political upheaval triggered by the recent Rajya Sabha polls in Himachal Pradesh's Congress unit, a comprehensive report has been compiled by party observers tasked with resolving the crisis.

This confidential three-page document, submitted to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, sheds light on various aspects of the situation, particularly scrutinizing the roles of key figures including Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and disgruntled minister Vikramaditya Singh.

The report, recently accessed by India Today TV, underscores concerns regarding Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's handling of the crisis, questioning his awareness of the issue of cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections. Additionally, it raises doubts about Sukhu's capacity to maintain party unity and address internal dissensions effectively in the future.

Moreover, the report highlights the actions of Vikramaditya Singh in exacerbating the crisis, deeming his conduct as a breach of party discipline. This assessment has led to doubts within the party regarding his reliability for future engagements.

The observers also noted the involvement of rebel MLAs in the crisis, suggesting that some of them were incentivized by the BJP to defect, thereby destabilizing the Congress government in the state.

To mitigate the risks of further destabilization, the observers have recommended immediate measures, including the allocation of corporations and other positions to nearly twelve disaffected MLAs before the Model Code of Conduct becomes applicable.

Furthermore, the report proposes a change in leadership within the party, advocating for the participation of state president Pratibha Singh in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, while suggesting a new appointee for the president's position.

Despite attempts by the BJP to exploit the situation for political gain, the report advises against changing the Chief Minister and emphasizes maintaining the status quo to safeguard against further disruptions.

Additionally, the report underscores the importance of establishing a coordination committee comprising key stakeholders to address internal party issues effectively.

Finally, the observers note the potential vulnerability of rebel unity, suggesting that not all dissidents are aligned in their objectives, indicating a possible avenue for reconciliation.
