Congress stalwart and former governor of Uttar Pradesh, Aziz Qureshi, passes away at age 83



Aziz Qureshi, a distinguished Congress veteran and former Uttar Pradesh Governor, passed away at a hospital in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, after bravely battling an extended period of illness, as confirmed by a family member. He was 83 years old at the time of his demise.

The news of Qureshi's passing was relayed by his nephew, Sufian Ali, who had been caring for him. According to reports from the news agency PTI, Qureshi had been enduring health challenges for some time before peacefully passing away around 11 am at a private hospital in Bhopal.

Updates on social media platforms, such as X, also conveyed the sorrowful news, with Samajwadi Party leader Ameeque Jamei sharing a post featuring a picture and a message attributed to Sufian Ali, stating Qureshi's time of death as 10:30 am at Bhopal's Apollo Hospital.

Among those expressing condolences was Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who shared his sentiments on X, describing the loss as "extremely sad" and extending prayers for the departed soul and strength for the grieving family.

Qureshi's illustrious career included serving as the governor of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Mizoram. He commenced his political journey by being elected as an MLA from Madhya Pradesh's Sehore constituency in 1972 and later ascended to the role of a Lok Sabha member in 1984.

Sufian Ali disclosed to PTI that Qureshi was unmarried, and arrangements for his final rites would be conducted later in the evening, allowing time for family and friends to bid their farewells and pay their respects to the esteemed leader.
