Congressman Rajendra Bhandari of Uttarakhand leaves the party and joins the BJP

In a significant political development, Rajendra Bhandari, a prominent leader within the Uttarakhand Congress and a sitting MLA, tendered his resignation from the party earlier on Sunday. Shortly thereafter, he made the decision to align himself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a move timed strategically ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The 60-year-old leader hailing from the Badrinath assembly constituency officially joined the BJP amidst a ceremonial gathering held in New Delhi, graced by the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister Piyush Goyal.

Extending a warm welcome to Bhandari into the BJP fold, Union Minister Goyal lauded his dedicated service to the people of Badrinath and attributed his decision to join the party to the inspirational leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Goyal expressed confidence that Bhandari would continue his committed efforts in the service of the nation, aligning with the BJP's vision of eradicating corruption, preserving heritage, and fostering national development.

Chief Minister Dhami echoed Goyal's sentiments, emphasizing Bhandari's induction as a testament to the BJP's unwavering commitment to progress and development. He lauded Bhandari's decision, citing the transformative impact of the BJP's developmental initiatives across Uttarakhand.

In his one-sentence resignation letter, Bhandari refrained from providing explicit reasons for his departure from the Congress, leaving the political landscape abuzz with speculation.

Bhandari's defection marks a significant shift in Uttarakhand's political dynamics, underscoring the BJP's growing influence and appeal within the region. As the state gears up for the impending Lok Sabha elections, Bhandari's move is poised to inject fresh momentum into the BJP's campaign efforts, bolstering its prospects of electoral success.
