CPI's response to Shashi Tharoor's remark on "alliance dharma" was to look in the mirror

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has responded to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's criticism regarding their decision to field a candidate in Thiruvananthapuram by suggesting that Tharoor should introspect before questioning alliance principles.

Tharoor had expressed his discontent with the CPI's move, accusing them of jeopardizing the anti-BJP vote by contesting in Thiruvananthapuram while simultaneously advocating for alliance unity in Wayanad.

In response, CPI General Secretary D Raja defended the party's decision, highlighting the unique political landscape of Kerala compared to other states. He advised Tharoor to understand Kerala's political history and the dynamics between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF).

Raja emphasized that while the CPI and Congress are allies at the national level, the situation in Kerala differs due to the historical rivalry between the LDF and UDF. He urged Tharoor to acknowledge the CPI's significant presence in Kerala and the necessity of contesting in certain constituencies.

Raja also questioned the Congress's commitment to the alliance, pointing out contradictions in their actions. He cited Rahul Gandhi's candidacy in Wayanad against the LDF as an example, questioning whether the Congress was truly prioritizing the fight against the BJP and RSS.

The exchange underscores the complexities of alliance politics and seat-sharing arrangements, particularly in states like Kerala where regional dynamics play a crucial role in electoral strategies.
