"Daughters can pilot drones too": the prime minister's attempt to dispel preconceptions

During his address at the India Today Conclave, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized his commitment to challenging social norms and empowering women in rural areas. He recounted the distribution of agricultural drones to girls in villages, a strategic move aimed at disrupting entrenched gender biases and fostering economic and technological empowerment.

Highlighting the societal surprise at the sight of daughters driving tractors in villages, PM Modi expressed his resolve to dismantle such stereotypes. The initiative, known as the Namo Drone Didi Yojana, saw the distribution of 1,000 drones to women's self-help groups in villages. Notably, these drones were specifically entrusted to women, reflecting the government's dedication to gender inclusivity and empowerment.

PM Modi underscored the transformative potential of this initiative, foreseeing its impact on both agriculture and the socio-economic status of women in rural areas. By equipping women with drone piloting skills, the scheme aimed to not only revolutionize farming practices but also redefine traditional gender roles.

In explaining his rationale behind prioritizing women for this initiative, PM Modi highlighted the persistent societal resistance to women engaging in activities traditionally deemed masculine, such as driving tractors. By deliberately placing these drones in the hands of women, PM Modi aimed to challenge such prejudices and pave the way for gender equality and empowerment in rural communities.

Describing the scheme as a pivotal step towards uplifting the rural agricultural economy, PM Modi underscored its significance in fostering inclusive growth and opportunities for women.

Furthermore, PM Modi reflected on the BJP government's governance model over the past decade, characterized by a paradigm shift towards prioritizing marginalized communities. This transformative approach, he noted, centered on addressing the needs of those previously relegated to the periphery of policy priorities, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
