Day after day, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, a judge at the Calcutta High Court, leaves to join the BJP

After tendering his resignation as a judge in the Calcutta High Court, Abhijit Gangopadhyay officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, marking a significant transition in his career path. Present at the event were prominent state leaders including Subhendu Adhikari, Sukanta Mazumder, and Mangal Pandey from the central leadership.

The former judge had announced his decision to join the BJP immediately after stepping down from his judicial role on Tuesday. Upon his formal induction into the party, Abhijit Gangopadhyay was warmly welcomed at the BJP office in Salt Lake, Bengal, where state party president Sukanta Majumdar presented him with the party flag.

Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the BJP, Gangopadhyay pledged to serve as a dedicated party member and emphasized the goal of removing the allegedly corrupt Trinamool Congress (TMC) regime from the state. He criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal government, referring to it as 'ferocious,' and emphasized the urgent need to uplift the state from its current deteriorating condition.

Declining to comment on the possibility of contesting in the Lok Sabha elections, Gangopadhyay focused on the broader mission of revitalizing West Bengal's political landscape. His entry into BJP politics was hailed by party leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, who described Gangopadhyay as a valuable addition to Bengal politics. Adhikari commended Gangopadhyay's fearless approach despite facing scrutiny in recent days.

Sukanta Majumder, the BJP state chief, lauded Gangopadhyay's judicial legacy and affirmed the party's intention to leverage his expertise for both party and electoral activities. Reflecting on Gangopadhyay's past accomplishments as a judge, Majumder expressed confidence in his ability to contribute significantly to BJP's political endeavors in West Bengal.
