DMK manifesto: NEET ban, no CAA, and the Chief Minister's authority to name governors

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiled the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) manifesto in Chennai today, outlining key promises such as granting statehood to Puducherry and advocating for a ban on NEET exams. The manifesto also proposes empowering the chief minister with the authority to appoint the Governor, among other significant reforms. Stalin commended his sister, Kanimozhi, for spearheading the drafting process of the manifesto, highlighting her dedication and meticulous attention to detail.

In addition to unveiling the manifesto, the DMK also announced its roster of candidates who will contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, further solidifying the party's commitment to democratic processes and representation.

Addressing the audience post-manifesto release, Chief Minister Stalin emphasized the DMK's longstanding commitment to fulfilling its promises, underscoring the importance of implementing schemes beneficial to Tamil Nadu based on the Dravidian model. He expressed confidence in extending these initiatives nationwide for the holistic development of India.

Stalin lauded Kanimozhi's comprehensive approach in crafting the manifesto, which encompasses tailored schemes for each district. Key highlights of the manifesto include proposals to amend the Indian Constitution to grant federal rights to states, establish a Supreme Court branch in Chennai, and enforce a ban on NEET exams. The manifesto also advocates for gender equality through the implementation of a thirty-three percent reservation for women and the introduction of a morning meal scheme for government schools.

Furthermore, the manifesto pledges to withdraw the National Education Policy (NEP), eliminate toll gates, revoke the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), and suspend student education loans. Notably, it proposes the repeal of Article 361, thereby granting the chief minister the authority to appoint the Governor.

Stalin emphasized the people-centric nature of the manifesto, reflecting extensive consultations with citizens across Tamil Nadu. He criticized the BJP for its failure to deliver on electoral promises and expressed confidence in the DPA's ability to form a government in 2024 under the INDIA alliance.

Meanwhile, Kanimozhi highlighted the manifesto's comprehensive approach, aiming to address diverse sectors and ensure good governance. She expressed optimism regarding the forthcoming elections, anticipating favorable outcomes based on the manifesto's strong policy framework.
