ED's inquiry agency has called Mahua Moitra back in connection with a forex violation case: Report

Mahua Moitra, a prominent figure within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate to appear at their office on March 11 for questioning regarding an alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). According to official sources disclosed on Monday, the Enforcement Directorate has reissued summons to Moitra, who formerly served as a Lok Sabha MP, concerning her involvement in a FEMA-related case.

Reportedly, the 49-year-old politician had previously requested a few weeks' delay to participate in the investigation and had conveyed her inability to attend the interrogation last month. However, the agency has now scheduled her appearance at their office in Delhi on March 11.

The Enforcement Directorate aims to interrogate Moitra and document her testimony following the provisions outlined in the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) once she presents herself for questioning. Notably, the agency's scrutiny in this case extends to transactions associated with a non-resident external (NRE) account, alongside several other instances of foreign remittances and fund transfers.

Furthermore, Moitra finds herself under scrutiny by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as well. The CBI has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the allegations leveled against Moitra, who was ousted from her position a few months earlier, as directed by the Lokpal.

Allegations put forth by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey have accused Moitra of leveraging her position in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts. Additionally, Dubey has implicated Moitra in compromising national security for financial gain.

Moitra vehemently refutes these allegations, asserting her innocence and attributing the accusations to her vocal opposition against the dealings of the Adani group.
