Former Ambassador of India to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party headquarters in New Delhi. Sandhu, who concluded his tenure as India's Ambassador to the US in January this year, expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and emphasized the importance of development, particularly in his hometown of Amritsar.
During his tenure, Sandhu had closely collaborated with PM Modi on matters concerning India's relations with the United States and Sri Lanka. He highlighted PM Modi's development-centric approach and expressed gratitude to the party leadership for encouraging him to embark on this new journey of national service.
Given his roots in Amritsar, there is speculation that Sandhu might contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the constituency. Addressing the media after joining the BJP, Sandhu indicated his intention to focus on Amritsar's development, aligning with the party's vision for progress.
Sandhu, a seasoned diplomat with a career spanning over three decades, has held various significant positions, including the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka. He has also served in key roles at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York and as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Washington D.C.
Throughout his distinguished career, Sandhu has been actively involved in promoting India's diplomatic interests across various international platforms. His decision to transition into politics underscores his commitment to contributing to the nation's development, particularly in his hometown and beyond.
