There is widespread speculation that Misa Bharati and Rohini Acharya, two of Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughters, will contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections as candidates of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) from the Patliputra and Saran constituencies, respectively.
Interestingly, there were strong indications that Ritlal Yadav, a former strongman now turned politician, was a leading contender for an RJD ticket from the Patliputra parliamentary constituency. Ritlal Yadav's recent visits to the official residence of former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in the state capital fueled speculations about his candidacy. When confronted by the media about his possible candidacy, Ritlal Yadav expressed deference to his siblings' preferences, emphasizing the importance of family unity in making decisions.
Responding to questions about his personal ambitions, Ritlal Yadav downplayed their significance, stating that it doesn't matter whether it is a brother or a sister who wins the election. He indicated a willingness to challenge the incumbent representative of Patliputra, without specifying any names.
However, Bihar BJP chief and deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary stirred controversy with remarks about Lalu Prasad Yadav, alleging that he "took away his daughter's kidney" before nominating her for the upcoming general elections. The RJD swiftly condemned Chaudhary's statement, with party spokesperson Sarika Paswan criticizing his choice of words.
Amidst speculation about potential tension within Bihar's Mahagathbandhan alliance regarding the common minimum program and seat distribution, the RJD has commenced the process of symbol allocation to its candidates. Following suit, the Communist Party of India (CPI) also began announcing its candidates, with D Raja declaring Awadhesh Kumar Rai as the party's candidate from Begusarai in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.
