Five people are arrested after Telangana officials raid a pharmacy facility selling fake medications

The Drugs Control Administration of Telangana, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force, has uncovered a clandestine drug manufacturing unit located in Uttarakhand. This illicit operation was engaged in the production and distribution of counterfeit pharmaceuticals containing chalk powder, cleverly disguised with labels from reputable companies like Cipla and GlaxoSmithKline.

As outlined in an official statement from the Drugs Control Administration, the investigative endeavor, dubbed Operation Jai, led to the discovery and confiscation of substantial quantities of fraudulent medications. Additionally, law enforcement authorities apprehended a total of five individuals implicated in this illicit scheme.

According to the statement, the apprehended suspects confessed to the manufacturing and dissemination of counterfeit versions of well-known medications, which were peddled across multiple states.

In a separate incident last month, the Drugs Control Administration in Telangana intercepted large quantities of an exorbitantly priced antibiotic in Nizamabad district. This intervention occurred during a raid carried out by a team from the DCA in the city of Armoor.

The antibiotic in question, Donem Injection (Meropenem injection IP 1 g), was confiscated due to its sale at an inflated price of Rs 1,899 for a 1g vial by a pharmaceutical company named Doctor's Life Sciences (India) Ltd.
