Former Mukti Morcha MLA for Jharkhand Sita Soren joins the BJP

Today, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Sita Soren, who is also the sister-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, made a significant political move by resigning from all party positions and her seat in the state Assembly. Following this resignation, Sita Soren joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi.

Sita Soren, a three-time MLA, is the wife of Durga Soren, the elder brother of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who tragically passed away in 2009 at the age of 39.

In her resignation letter penned in Hindi, Sita Soren expressed her disillusionment, citing constant disrespect directed towards her and her family since her husband's demise. She lamented feeling sidelined and alienated within both the party and the Soren family, which she found deeply painful.

Sita Soren voiced her disappointment that the JMM, once molded into greatness by her late husband, no longer embodies the same values and principles. She criticized the current leadership, stating that their vision and goals diverged from the core ethos that once defined the party.

Despite efforts by JMM supremo Shibu Soren to maintain unity, Sita Soren alleged a conspiracy against her and her family, leading her to conclude that severing ties with both the party and the family was the necessary course of action.

Her resignation comes amidst a backdrop of heightened political tensions in Jharkhand. In August 2022, Sita Soren publicly criticized the Hemant Soren government, accusing it of failing to address the rampant exploitation of land in the mineral-rich state. Additionally, when Hemant Soren faced potential arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January of this year, there were speculations within the JMM about his replacement, with Sita Soren emerging as a contender, exacerbating the longstanding feud within the Soren family.
