Governor of Tamil Nadu departs for Delhi following MK Stalin's request for Ponmudy's oath of office

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi departed for Delhi on Thursday, a day after Chief Minister MK Stalin urged him to swear in K Ponmudy as a Cabinet Minister.

Stalin's request came following the Supreme Court's stay on Ponmudy's conviction in a disproportionate assets case and the suspension of his three-year sentence.

K Ponmudy was reinstated as an MLA on Wednesday, and the notification declaring his Tirukoyilur Assembly constituency vacant was rescinded.

According to DMK MP and Supreme Court advocate P Wilson, the Assembly Speaker needed to update the records to reinstate Ponmudy as a legislator.

As Governor RN Ravi embarked on his three-day visit to Delhi, sources close to him mentioned that he intended to seek the Attorney General's opinion regarding Ponmudy's appointment as a minister.

The case against Ponmudy and his wife dates back to 2002 during the AIADMK government's tenure in Tamil Nadu, alleging that their income of Rs 1.4 crore was disproportionate to their known sources of income at the time.
