If we get a majority, the Constitution can be modified to benefit Hindus: BJP MP

Karnataka BJP Member of Parliament Anantkumar Hegde reiterated his proposition regarding the amendment of the Constitution, suggesting that it could undergo modifications to benefit the Hindu community. Speaking at a public gathering in Uttara Kannada district, the BJP MP elaborated on the potential mechanism for implementing such alterations.

According to Hegde, effecting such changes would necessitate not only a majority in the Lok Sabha under Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also a two-thirds majority in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, as well as concurrence from all state governments.

Furthermore, he underscored the imperative for the BJP to secure 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to enact the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Hegde reflected on the legislative journey of the CAA, highlighting its passage in the Lok Sabha and subsequent clearance in the Rajya Sabha, albeit without unanimous support from the states, which hindered its implementation. He warned that failure to pass the CAA would jeopardize law and order in the country, paving the way for subversive elements.

In response to Hegde's comments, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi criticized the assertion that "400 seats are needed to amend the Constitution" as a revelation of the concealed agenda of Narendra Modi and his 'Sangh Parivar'. Gandhi asserted that the BJP's ultimate objective is to dismantle the Constitution crafted by Baba Saheb, emphasizing their aversion to justice, equality, civil liberties, and democracy.

Gandhi contended that through societal division, media manipulation, suppression of free speech, and weakening of independent institutions, the BJP aims to transform India's robust democracy into a narrow autocracy, thereby undermining opposition voices.

He pledged to thwart such machinations and uphold the democratic principles enshrined in the Constitution, rallying support from all segments of society, particularly Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and minorities.

This instance adds to a series of controversial statements made by Hegde, including his assertion last month that world peace hinges on the presence of the BJP and Sangh Parivar. In January, he sparked outrage by suggesting that the Bhatkal mosque in Karnataka would meet a fate akin to that of the Babri Masjid, leading to a suo moto case being filed against him.
