In Pakistan, eight children were killed and twelve injured in severe rain

Heavy rains in Pakistan's northwest have resulted in tragic consequences, with eight people, including mostly children, losing their lives and 12 others sustaining injuries. Anwar Shahzad, a spokesperson for the local disaster management authority, reported that the downpours caused rooms to collapse, leading to fatalities and injuries.

Among the victims were three siblings aged between 3 and 7 years old, all from the same family. These casualties occurred within the past 24 hours due to the adverse weather conditions.

This year, Pakistan experienced a delay in winter rains, which began in February instead of the usual timeframe in November. Both monsoon and winter rains typically cause damage in Pakistan annually.

Earlier in the month, approximately 30 individuals lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the northwest region.

Meanwhile, across the border in Afghanistan, heavy rainfall on March 29 and 30 led to significant destruction, including the loss of more than 1,500 acres of agricultural land and severe damage to hundreds of homes, bridges, and roads in seven provinces. The most affected provinces include northern Faryab, eastern Nangarhar, and central Daikundi.

Notably, this marks the third instance of flooding in the northern region within less than a month, resulting in seven fatalities and affecting 384 families due to heavy rains, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
