In Tamil Nadu, a migrant laborer was attacked on suspicion of being a kidnapper



In the latest occurrence of such incidents observed in Tamil Nadu, a migrant worker fell victim to an attack in Parikapatu village, located in the Thiruvallur district, on Saturday, as he was subjected to suspicion of being a kidnapper by a gathering mob.

The unfortunate sequence of events transpired as the man was traversing through the village, engaging in conversation with children along the way. However, speculations regarding his alleged involvement in kidnapping swiftly proliferated throughout the village, catalyzing the formation of a crowd that encircled him.

Subsequently, the mob launched a violent assault on the individual, inflicting injuries to his facial region and shoulder. Following the assault, he was confined within the confines of a temple premises, while the authorities were alerted by the mob.

Upon delving into the matter, it came to light that the basis of the attack stemmed from unfounded rumors circulating across social media platforms within the vicinity, falsely implicating the victim in acts of kidnapping.

The victim, having sustained injuries from the attack, was promptly admitted to a medical facility for treatment, as law enforcement agencies initiated further inquiries into the incident. Notably, this alarming episode marks the second occurrence of its kind within two weeks in Tamil Nadu.

In the prior incident, which unfolded on February 19 in Chennai, a distressing ordeal befell a 25-year-old transgender individual who was subjected to being bound to a lamp-post, stripped, and subjected to physical assault by an enraged mob, under suspicion of involvement in kidnapping activities.

The victim of the first incident had just concluded a meal at an eatery situated near the Pallavaram area of the city when the appalling attack transpired, further underscoring the urgent need for measures to address the escalating incidents of mob violence and vigilantism within the region.
