"It's shocking that his eyes...": DMK responds to the PM regarding the "island handover" to Sri Lanka

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's accusation against the Congress regarding the Katchatheevu island issue, the DMK has hit back, alleging that the BJP is engaging in blame games with the opposition instead of focusing on its achievements.

DMK spokesperson Manuraj S criticized the Prime Minister's remarks, labeling them as a "woeful and outdated political campaign" matter. He pointed out that the issue, based on a news article derived from an RTI query filed by a BJP member and information provided by the government, pertains to events nearly 50 years old.

Manuraj S highlighted the irony of the incumbent party's focus on historical issues instead of campaigning on its present achievements after being in government for a decade. He emphasized that the BJP seems reluctant to highlight its accomplishments and is instead preoccupied with blaming the opposition.

The Prime Minister's accusation stemmed from a media report citing an RTI reply received by Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai regarding the Congress government's decision in 1974 to hand over the Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka. PM Modi characterized this revelation as "eye-opening and startling," accusing the Congress of weakening India's unity and integrity through its actions.

The Katchatheevu island issue holds significance for Tamil Nadu's fishermen who rely on its waters for fishing due to the depletion of fish in Indian waters. However, they often face detention by the Sri Lankan Navy when crossing the International Maritime Border Line to reach the island.
