Jayant Sinha of the BJP chooses not to run in the Lok Sabha elections after Gautam Gambhir

After Gautam Gambhir's recent request, former Union Minister and BJP MP representing Hazaribagh, Jayant Sinha, has also approached the BJP leadership, specifically addressing BJP President JP Nadda, with a similar plea to be relieved of his electoral responsibilities. This decision, communicated on Saturday, stems from Sinha's earnest desire to channel his energies towards addressing the pressing issue of climate change, both domestically within India and on a global scale.

In articulating his stance, Sinha emphasized his intention to abstain from contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, stating, "I have formally approached JP Nadda to withdraw from my direct electoral commitments, thereby allowing me to redirect my endeavors towards combatting the imminent threat of global climate change, within Bharat and beyond its borders. Nevertheless, I remain committed to collaborating with the party on matters about economic policies and governance."

Having previously held ministerial portfolios within the Narendra Modi Cabinet, including Minister of State for Finance and Civil Aviation, Sinha expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their unwavering support and opportunities extended to him during his tenure.

Reflecting on his decade-long service to the people of India and the Hazaribagh constituency, Sinha acknowledged the privilege he has had in serving his constituents.

This announcement by Sinha follows closely on the heels of Gautam Gambhir's similar appeal to JP Nadda. Gambhir, set to mentor the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), underscored his desire to focus on impending cricket commitments, urging for a release from his political obligations.

These developments arise amidst speculation surrounding the BJP's imminent announcement of its first tranche of 100 Lok Sabha candidates in the coming days. Reports suggest that the party, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has deliberated extensively on potential candidates, with an inclination towards introducing fresh faces and potentially fielding several prominent women leaders.
