Joining the DMK-led alliance, Kamal Haasan's MNM wins one Rajya Sabha seat

Actor and political figure Kamal Haasan, renowned for his leadership in the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party, formally aligned his party with the DMK-led coalition for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections during an announcement made by the party on Saturday. The collaboration includes MNM securing a seat for the 2025 Rajya Sabha elections, a significant step in their political journey.

Amid widespread anticipation regarding MNM's potential participation in the parliamentary polls, the agreement was reached between Haasan and MK Stalin, the president of the ruling party and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, located in Chennai.

Addressing the media in Chennai after the announcement, Kamal Haasan emphasized that their decision to join the DMK-led alliance was driven by a sense of national duty rather than any aspirations for positions within the political hierarchy. He affirmed MNM's commitment to supporting the alliance's endeavors in the Lok Sabha elections without fielding their candidates.

Under the terms of the agreement between the two leaders, MNM will be actively involved in campaign-related activities across the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and the solitary segment in Puducherry.

Concurrently, the DMK was reportedly on the verge of finalizing their seat-sharing arrangement with the Congress by Saturday evening, a process reminiscent of their collaboration in the 2019 general elections, which yielded a remarkable electoral success with the alliance securing 38 out of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state, while the Congress secured 8 out of the 9 seats it contested at the time.
