Kunal Ghosh of Trinamool criticizes a party MP and demands that the CBI look into his bank account

Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has escalated his criticism of senior party figure Sudip Banerjee, advocating for a thorough investigation into the North Kolkata MP's bank accounts by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate about the coal scam.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Ghosh directly addressed the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate, calling for scrutiny into Sudip Banerjee's financial transactions, particularly payments made to Apollo, Bhubaneswar. He emphasized the necessity of probing whether substantial amounts were transferred to Banerjee during his period of custody or payments were made to the hospital on his behalf.

Ghosh also hinted at potential legal action if investigative agencies fail to heed his demand, suggesting that he may approach the courts to compel compliance with his request.

Moreover, Ghosh alleged that Banerjee's leniency toward the BJP stems from ongoing corruption investigations initiated by the BJP, implying a conflict of interest.

Considered to be close to TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Ghosh recently announced his decision to step down from his roles as Trinamool's spokesperson and state general secretary, attributing his decision to a perceived alignment of certain party veterans, including Banerjee, with the BJP's agenda rather than the TMC's interests.

In a press conference earlier, Ghosh accused Banerjee of neglecting his constituency's constituents for much of the year, only becoming active in the lead-up to Lok Sabha elections.

Last year, Ghosh had suggested that it was time for the older members of the party to make way for the next generation, signaling a broader sentiment of generational transition within the party leadership.
