At the India Today Conclave 2024, Mizoram's Baryl Vanneihsangi, the youngest MLA in the northeastern state, highlighted the challenges she faces as a first-time legislator and a woman in Indian politics. Raised in a patriarchal society, she discussed her journey into politics and her previous experience as a media person, emphasizing the importance of serving the community.

Before entering state politics, Baryl served the community through television, finding fulfillment in imparting education and information through entertainment. Inspired by her desire to work for and with the people, she transitioned into politics, aligning with her passion for serving society.

At 32 years old, Baryl made history by becoming the youngest MLA in Mizoram and the first woman to lead an Assembly session in the state. Her victory in the December 2023 election marked a significant milestone for her and her party, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), securing victory by a narrow margin in the Aizawl South-III constituency.

In addition to her political achievements, Baryl wields influence in the digital sphere, boasting a substantial following on Instagram.

Reflecting on her new role and the expectations that come with it, Baryl acknowledged the pressure she faces from seniors and veterans in the political arena. However, she remains steadfast in following her heart and staying true to the mission that led her into politics.

Regarding women's empowerment and gender inclusivity in politics, Baryl shared her experiences of overcoming obstacles as a woman in a patriarchal society. She emphasized the importance of optimism in overcoming challenges and encouraged women not to seek reservations solely based on gender but to view obstacles as opportunities for growth.
