Nayab Singh Saini: who is he? The new Chief Minister of Haryana

Nayab Saini, a Member of Parliament representing Kurukshetra in the Lok Sabha, stands as the prominent OBC figure for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana. Hailing from the Saini caste, which holds considerable sway in the state, Nayab Saini embodies the BJP's outreach to diverse communities within Haryana.

Following the resignation of Manohar Lal Khattar from the Chief Ministerial post, Nayab Singh Saini assumed office as the Chief Minister of Haryana. This development, occurring just ahead of the impending Haryana Assembly elections, arises amidst speculations regarding the BJP's potential dissolution of its alliance with Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party, potentially paving the way for a BJP-led government bolstered by Independent support.

Nayab Singh Saini's elevation to the Chief Ministerial position reflects the BJP's strategy of refreshing leadership ahead of crucial electoral contests. This pattern mirrors recent transitions in other BJP-led states such as Gujarat and Uttarakhand.

Born on January 25, 1970, in Mirzapur, Ambala, Nayab Saini pursued his education, obtaining a bachelor's degree and LLB from BR Ambedkar Bihar University and Charan Singh University respectively. He has been an integral part of the BJP's Haryana cadre since 1996, contributing significantly to the party's organizational growth.

Nayab Saini's political journey within the BJP commenced with roles such as the district general secretary of the youth wing in Ambala, evolving into positions like the district president of BJP's Ambala Yuva Morcha. Over the years, he ascended through party ranks, assuming responsibilities such as the general secretary of the BJP Kisan Morcha in Haryana, and eventually being appointed as the district president of Ambala in 2012.

His electoral debut in 2010 from the Naraingarh constituency faced defeat, but he clinched victory in 2014 during the Haryana Assembly polls, subsequently joining the Mahohar Lal Khattar Cabinet. In 2019, Nayab Saini transitioned to national politics, securing a triumph in the Lok Sabha elections from the Kurukshetra constituency, triumphing over Congress's Nirmal Singh by a significant margin.

Nayab Saini's affiliation with the influential Saini caste underscores his deep-rooted connection with the socio-political fabric of Haryana. Constituting around 8 percent of Haryana's populace, the Saini community holds significant sway in districts such as Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Hisar, and Rewari.
