No progress in negotiations with India; Swami Prasad Maurya to stand alone in polls

Swami Prasad Maurya, the leader who recently formed the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party (RSSP) after quitting the Samajwadi Party, announced that his party would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections independently from Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar constituency. This decision came after talks with the leaders of the Opposition INDIA alliance did not yield any breakthrough.

In a post on X, Maurya expressed his continuous efforts to support the INDIA alliance since the formation of his party on February 22. He mentioned that he had engaged in discussions with leaders from major parties in Uttar Pradesh, which are part of the INDIA alliance, and even submitted a list of five names for consideration. However, no decision was made on his proposals, prompting him to focus on contesting from Kushinagar independently.

Maurya emphasized his commitment to the people of Kushinagar and their development, stating that he would dedicate himself to serving them as their candidate for the Lok Sabha seat. He also announced SN Chauhan as the candidate for the Deoria Lok Sabha constituency from his party and hinted at further announcements soon.

Regarding his status within the INDIA alliance, Maurya expressed uncertainty about whether he would be considered part of the alliance or not, similar to how other leaders like Chandrashekhar Azad of Bhim Army and Pallavi Patel of Apna Dal (Camerawadi) were treated.

Swami Prasad Maurya has a history of political affiliations, having been associated with the BJP, Samajwadi Party, and BSP at different times. His recent departure from the Samajwadi Party was accompanied by allegations of discrimination and lack of support from the party leadership. He had contested the 2022 assembly polls unsuccessfully from Fazilnagar before forming his own party, the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party.
