No talk of an alliance with the BJD, according to the head of the Odisha BJP

Manmohan Samal, the Chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha, clarified on Friday that the recent gathering with party leaders primarily focused on strategizing for the impending elections, with no deliberations conducted regarding a potential alliance, particularly with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Naveen Patnaik. His statement emerges amidst conjectures surrounding the possibility of the ruling BJD forging ties once again with the BJP.

Samal emphasized, "The meeting convened was specifically centered on gearing up for the electoral process, bringing together our esteemed senior leaders. Our trip to Delhi was dedicated to this purpose, with no explicit talks concerning forming alliances. Our focus remained squarely on charting our course for the upcoming electoral challenges."

He further elaborated, stating, "The BJP is committed to contesting elections independently, both at the parliamentary and state assembly levels. Our discussions revolved around devising strategies for securing governance both at the state and national levels."

The history between the BJD and the BJP reflects a significant political evolution, marked by the BJD's departure from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2009, following protracted negotiations over seat-sharing arrangements.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured victories in eight parliamentary constituencies and 23 assembly seats, while the BJD emerged victorious in 12 parliamentary constituencies and clinched 112 assembly seats.

The public expressions of admiration between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Naveen Patnaik underscore a nuanced political landscape, exemplified by their recent exchanges during Modi's visit to Odisha on March 5th. During this visit, Modi inaugurated several developmental projects valued at over Rs 19,600 crore in the Jaipur district, further highlighting the intricate dynamics of political relationships amidst the backdrop of developmental agendas.
