One of two people detained in an Andhra woman's suicide case is a TDP worker



Two days after the tragic demise of Geetanjali, who purportedly took her own life due to incessant online harassment, the Andhra Pradesh Police took action by apprehending two individuals amidst widespread public outcry.

The arrests made by the Andhra Pradesh Police, including one individual affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), signify a pivotal development in the investigation into the unfortunate suicide of Geetanjali Devi, which has evoked intense public reaction throughout the state.

Rambabu Pasumarthi, associated with TDP, and Durgarao were detained by the law enforcement authorities following allegations of their involvement in the cyberbullying incident that allegedly drove Geetanjali to take her life.

The official statement released by the police delineates how Rambabu, through Twitter, and Durga Rao, via Instagram, engaged in a campaign of trolling and hurling derogatory remarks at Geetanjali, causing significant emotional distress and ultimately leading to her untimely demise.

The circumstances surrounding Geetanjali's death have triggered widespread outrage, prompting calls for swift and decisive action against those responsible for perpetuating online harassment leading to tragic outcomes.

Speaking to India Today TV, Guntur Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi shed light on the investigation, revealing that nearly 80 individuals have been identified for their involvement in posting derogatory and sexually explicit comments about Geetanjali on various social media platforms.

The ongoing investigation, led by a specialized team supervised by ASP Nachiketh, aims to bring all perpetrators to justice, with the possibility of further arrests pending based on their respective roles in the cyberbullying incident.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the Guntur SP reiterated that the incident is being treated as a case of suicide, refuting claims suggesting otherwise, and assured a comprehensive examination of all aspects of the tragic event.
