One railway worker is detained by Bengali police for transporting drugs worth Rs 90 lakh

The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police successfully apprehended a railway employee for his involvement in drug smuggling activities originating from the northeastern states. The operation led to the seizure of a significant quantity of opium, weighing approximately 9.081 kg, with an estimated market value of around Rs 90 lakh.

Acting on specific intelligence, the STF team strategically laid a trap near Nasra High School in Nadia district, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the suspect, identified as Raju Mondal, aged 39 and employed as a Group-D staff member with the Indian Railways. Mondal was allegedly utilizing a courier company to facilitate the illegal transportation of banned substances from the northeastern states.

Following his apprehension, Mondal was taken into custody, and a case was registered at a local police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation revealed his purported involvement in the illicit trade of contraband over several years, utilizing parcel couriers for transportation.

The arrested individual remains under interrogation as efforts continue to dismantle the entire drug trafficking racket.
