"Preserve Bengal": A former Congress politician who joined the BJP sends the PM a blood letter

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kaustav Bagchi, who recently parted ways with the Congress, presented a letter inscribed with his own blood to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a gathering in Siliguri, West Bengal, on Saturday.

The letter, composed in Bengali, urged PM Modi to "rescue West Bengal from corruption." PM Modi acknowledged the gesture but advised Bagchi against repeating such actions in the future.

Bagchi, who transitioned from the Congress to the BJP, previously shaved his head in protest after being apprehended by the Kolkata Police in 2023. He vowed not to grow his hair back until the Trinamool Congress government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was ousted from power.

Having left the Congress on February 28, citing grievances regarding the party's lack of regard for the West Bengal unit, Bagchi expressed his decision to prioritize self-respect. He articulated, "The Congress top brass disregards the West Bengal division entirely. Therefore, I refuse to compromise my dignity and remain associated with it," as per statements reported by news agency PTI. Subsequently, he joined the BJP on February 29.

During his third visit to West Bengal within a month, PM Modi inaugurated infrastructure initiatives valued at over Rs 4,500 crore on Saturday.
