Pro-Pak chants: 22 former officers disagree with the oath taken by Rajya Sabha members

A group comprising twenty-two retired civil services officers has penned a letter addressed to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, urging him to refrain from administering the oath to Syed Naseer Hussain, the recently elected member of the Rajya Sabha. This appeal stems from allegations suggesting Hussain's failure to oppose pro-Pakistan slogans that reportedly echoed within the Karnataka Assembly premises on February 27. Additionally, the retired officers highlighted claims of Hussain's purported discourteous behavior towards representatives of the media.

Moreover, it was reported earlier in the week that three individuals were apprehended for chanting slogans in favor of Pakistan after the victory of a Congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections held the previous week. These individuals, identified as Ilthaz from Delhi, Munavar from RT Nagar in Bengaluru, and Mohammad Shafi from Byadagi in Haveri, were detained following the incident.

However, the Congress party has vehemently refuted these allegations, asserting that its members were merely expressing support for Hussain by chanting 'Nasir saab zindabad' (Long live Nasir, sir).

In response to the allegations, the government under the leadership of Siddaramaiah has initiated an investigation, entrusting the task to a government-operated forensic science laboratory, intending to verify the veracity of the claims made against Hussain.
