Prof. at Visva-Bharati University is being investigated for allegedly soliciting sexual favors

Three female students from Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a guest professor, accusing him of soliciting sexual favors in exchange for passing them in semester exams. The students, who are enrolled in the Persian, Urdu, and Islamic Studies departments, also alleged that the accused professor sent them lewd messages individually on WhatsApp and inappropriately touched them at times.

A Visva-Bharati University official stated that if the students approach the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the central university, it will investigate the charges and take appropriate action.

According to the complaint lodged at Santiniketan police station on March 28 and recorded in the court of ACJM, Bolpur, the accused guest professor allegedly promised to assist the students in their semester exams if they agreed to his proposals.

The police have initiated investigations into the matter, while the accused professor has denied the allegations, claiming he is being framed. He emphasized that he has never faced such accusations in the past despite teaching at the university for an extended period.

Sudipta Bhattacharya, spokesperson for the Visva-Bharati University Faculty Association, emphasized the need for a prompt and thorough investigation into the allegations.
