refuses to permit the implementation of the CAA in Tamil Nadu in any way: Stalin MK

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin made a firm declaration on Monday, stating that his government would not entertain the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state under any circumstances.

Stalin emphasized that the CAA posed a direct threat to minorities and Sri Lankan Tamils residing in refugee camps across Tamil Nadu. He criticized the hasty notification of the CAA by the BJP-led Centre, particularly as the parliamentary elections draw near, denouncing it as not only unconstitutional but also detrimental to the principles of diversity, secularism, and the welfare of minority communities and Sri Lankan Tamils.

Expressing confidence in the people's response, Stalin remarked that they would deliver a strong rebuke to such actions. He highlighted the DMK government's earlier efforts, noting that upon assuming power, they had introduced a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to revoke the CAA, subsequently forwarding it to the Centre.

Stalin criticized the central government's motive behind notifying the CAA, attributing it to an attempt to evade scrutiny from the apex court, divert public attention, and engage in electoral politics.

He cautioned against the divisive nature of the law, stressing the government's firm stance against it. Stalin assured the people of Tamil Nadu that his administration would vehemently oppose any legislation that threatened the unity of India, reiterating the state's commitment to safeguarding national harmony.
