'Rs 100 crore-for-favours transaction' between K Kavitha and senior AAP leaders: investigating agency

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has made serious allegations against K Kavitha, a prominent leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the daughter of K Chandrashekhar Rao, the former Chief Minister of Telangana. The ED claims that Kavitha was involved in a conspiracy with high-ranking members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, concerning the now-defunct Delhi liquor policy.

According to the ED's investigation, Kavitha allegedly paid a substantial sum of Rs 100 crore to AAP leaders in exchange for favorable treatment under the liquor policy. The ED further alleges that this money was obtained through illegal means, specifically as kickbacks from liquor wholesalers, and was subsequently funneled to the AAP through acts of corruption and conspiracy.

Moreover, the ED contends that Kavitha and her associates were actively involved in recovering the proceeds of these illicit activities, which were paid in advance to the AAP. This suggests a concerted effort to manipulate the Delhi liquor policy for personal gain.

Kavitha's arrest by the ED in Hyderabad on March 16, following searches at her residence, underscores the seriousness of these allegations. She has been remanded to ED custody until March 23 as the investigation continues.

The ED's probe into this matter has been extensive, with searches conducted at numerous locations across the country, including Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai. As a result of these efforts, fifteen individuals, including AAP leaders such as Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Vijay Nair, have been arrested in connection with the case.

The ED has filed one prosecution complaint and five supplementary complaints as part of its legal proceedings. Additionally, the probe agency has identified assets totaling Rs 128.79 crore, believed to have been generated from the proceeds of these illegal activities.

Overall, the allegations made by the ED against K Kavitha and her associates paint a troubling picture of corruption and malfeasance, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action.
