Sheikh Shahjahan is turned up to the CBI by Bengal Police following a court order

The West Bengal Police, in response to a fresh directive from the Calcutta High Court, has transferred the custody of suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This decision comes after the CBI accused the Bengal CID of failing to adhere to the High Court's order.

Additionally, the CBI will assume jurisdiction over the case involving an assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district, on January 5. The incident occurred during a raid at Sheikh Shahjahan's residence, conducted by the ED in connection with an alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam. Shahjahan stands accused of inciting the mob to attack the ED officials.

Prior to his arrest, Sheikh Shahjahan underwent a medical examination at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

Earlier today, the CBI approached the Calcutta High Court, alleging non-compliance by the Bengal Police in transferring custody of the suspended TMC leader, despite the court's order issued on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court criticized the Bengal Police for its perceived bias and ordered the transfer of the investigation into the attack on ED officials in Sandeshkhali to the CBI.

Sheikh Shahjahan was apprehended on February 29 in connection with the assault on ED officials, following a 55-day period of evading arrest.
