Singer Pawan Singh of Bhojpuri will run for election after turning down a BJP ticket

Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh has announced his decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls, reversing his earlier withdrawal as the BJP candidate for the Asansol seat in West Bengal.

In a statement on social media platform X, Pawan Singh expressed his commitment to fulfilling his promise to the people and his mother by contesting the elections. He sought blessings and cooperation from the public, concluding with the phrase "Jai Mata Di."

This announcement comes after Pawan Singh had earlier cited "personal reasons" for his inability to contest the Lok Sabha elections, expressing gratitude to the BJP leadership for nominating him as the candidate for Asansol.

However, the Trinamool Congress claimed that Pawan Singh's reversal was prompted by the backlash he faced over his "sexist and misogynist videos." The singer had previously sparked controversy with certain song videos featuring inappropriate references to Bengali women.

It's noteworthy that Bollywood legend Shatrughan Sinha currently represents the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency for the Trinamool Congress and has been nominated again for the upcoming elections.
