Tax searches against YS Sharmila's relative's restaurant in Hyderabad

The Income Tax Department recently conducted raids on a well-known restaurant in Hyderabad, namely Chutneys, which is owned by a relative of Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief YS Sharmila Reddy. The raids also extended to the residence of the restaurant owner, Atluri Padma.

Chutneys is a favored breakfast spot in the city and holds significant popularity among locals. The proprietor's familial ties to YS Sharmila Reddy, whose son is married to Padma's daughter, have added a political dimension to the raids.

The raids have sparked considerable interest within business circles, given the restaurant's widespread appeal and its owner's connections in the political arena. However, neither Chutneys' management nor Income Tax Department officials have issued any official statements regarding the purpose or outcomes of the raids.

These developments unfold against the backdrop of impending Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh. Scheduled for May 13, the elections hold significant political significance in the state. The Congress and BJP are yet to reveal their list of candidates, while the Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena Party, part of the National Democratic Alliance, have finalized their seat-sharing arrangements for both the Lok Sabha and state polls on March 11.

With the election season looming, such incidents carry added weight and are closely monitored for their potential impact on the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh.
