The brother of a Bengali minister was raided for tax cheating connected to building companies

The Income Tax Department carried out raids on Wednesday at the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Swarup Biswas, who is the brother of West Bengal Minister Aroop Biswas. The raids are part of an investigation into allegations of extortion, tax evasion, and unaccounted wealth related to two construction companies.

The raids are taking place at five locations in Kolkata, including Swarup Biswas's residence in the New Alipore area and his wife Jui Biswas's office. Jui Biswas is not only a local Trinamool Congress councilor but also serves as a spokesperson for the party.

Among the locations being raided, three are situated in Kolkata's Parnashree area, which includes the office of one of the construction companies under scrutiny.

Sources indicate that during an investigation into the operations of the construction companies, Swarup Biswas's name emerged, prompting the raids conducted by the Income Tax Department.

At present, Swarup Biswas and his wife are being interrogated, while officials from the Income Tax Department are examining the documents seized during the raids.
