The brother of Sheikh Shahjahan was detained for attacking investigators

The brother of suspended TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday in connection with the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials. The probe agency officials were attacked on January 5 when they were headed to conduct a raid on Shahjahan's house in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali village.

Two others -- Mafujar Molla, the President of TMC's student wing in Sandeshkhali, and Sirajul Molla, a resident of the village, were also arrested in connection with the attack.

The three accused, including Shahjahan's brother Alamgir, were summoned by the CBI on Saturday after the suspended TMC leader and others were questioned.

Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested last month, 55 days after he went into hiding following the attack on ED officials.

Earlier this week, the CBI had arrested three alleged associates of Shahajahan Sheikh, including his security guard, in connection with the January 5 attack.

After he went into hiding, several women in Sandeshkhali raised allegations of sexual exploitation and illegal land grabbing by Shahjahan and his associates.

Two of his aides, TMC leaders Shibaprasad Hazra alias Shibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar, were arrested after a woman from Sandeshkhali filed a written complaint. They face gang rape charges.
