Three people electrocuted in the UP after a sound system at a wedding was hit by current

During a wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi, at least three individuals tragically lost their lives on Saturday due to electrocution resulting from a surge of high-voltage electricity passing through the dance floor's sound system.

The victims, identified as Rajesh Kumar (20), Ravi Kumar (22), and Satish Kumar (35), were among the attendees of Pintu Yadav's wedding procession. Satish was endeavoring to shield the sound system from rainfall by holding an umbrella aloft, an act of precaution during the heavy downpour.

As the procession traversed through the Usra locality of the city, the umbrella inadvertently made contact with an 11,000-kilowatt (KW) wire, leading to the transmission of electrical current through the sound system, as confirmed by the authorities.

Following the tragic incident, the injured individuals were promptly transported to a nearby medical facility, where they were pronounced dead upon examination by healthcare professionals. Subsequently, post-mortem examinations were conducted, and their remains were dispatched for cremation under the prescribed procedures.

Addressing the media, local councilor Virendra Gautam revealed that he had previously alerted the Junior Engineer (JE) regarding the presence of loose wires in the vicinity. Despite subsequent inspections by lineman Rajesh, no measures were undertaken to rectify the situation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Avdhesh Vishwakarma elucidated the sequence of events, highlighting the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. "An umbrella was positioned over a DJ setup to shield it from the rain, with Satish holding the canopy. However, an adjacent high-tension wire inadvertently caused an electric shock, resulting in Satish's injury. Additionally, two other individuals in proximity to the sound system sustained injuries," DSP Vishwakarma explained.

He further affirmed that necessary procedures, including post-mortem examinations and legal formalities, were duly carried out, ensuring adherence to legal protocols and regulations.
