Animesh Debbarma, a prominent figure in the Tipra Motha party, tendered his resignation from the position of Leader of Opposition in the Tripura Assembly and subsequently took the oath as a minister. Emphasizing the party's unwavering stance, he affirmed that Tipra Motha remains steadfast in its advocacy for the creation of a distinct 'Greater Tipraland' state, encompassing regions within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
In a significant turn of events, Tipra Motha formally integrated into the BJP-led government in Tripura, signaling its commitment to advancing its political agenda. Animesh Debbarma and fellow party member Brishaketu Debbarma assumed ministerial roles in the BJP-led administration on the same day.
This development follows closely on the heels of a tripartite accord inked in New Delhi among Tipra Motha, the Tripura government, and the Central government. The agreement, finalized on March 2 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, pledges to address comprehensively the historical, territorial, and political rights of the indigenous populace of Tripura, along with aspects related to economic development, cultural identity, and linguistic heritage.
Expressing his party's determination, Animesh Debbarma affirmed their resolute pursuit of their objectives during the post-swearing-in ceremony. When pressed about the party's stance on 'Greater Tipraland', he reiterated their steadfast commitment to the cause, asserting that efforts toward realizing their aspirations would persist unabated.
Moreover, when questioned about the feasibility of spearheading a movement for their demands while being part of the government apparatus, Animesh Debbarma remained resolute, affirming their capacity to champion their cause, even from within the government. He cited instances of central ministers participating in movements and underscored their intent to persist with their advocacy.
In consonance with this sentiment, Tipra Motha's leader, Pradyot Debbarma, emphasized the need for consistent advocacy both within and outside the government. He stressed that ministerial appointments would not alter their approach and that they would vocally articulate their demands within the cabinet and beyond, including in Delhi.
Chief Minister Manik Saha reiterated the government's commitment to fostering peace and tranquility in the region. He assured that ministerial portfolios would soon be allocated to the newly appointed ministers, signifying a seamless integration of Tipra Motha into the governmental framework.
The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Governor Nallu Indrasena Reddy, witnessed the induction of Tipra Motha MLAs into ministerial positions. The event was attended by Chief Minister Manik Saha, cabinet members, Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Debbarma, and other dignitaries, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
Earlier in the day, Animesh Debbarma formally resigned from his role as the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly, marking a pivotal transition for Tipra Motha. With its newfound alliance with the BJP and the allocation of two ministerial portfolios, Tipra Motha now assumes a more influential role in Tripura's political landscape.
