To address issues, the government inks a tripartite agreement with Tripura and TIPRA Motha

On Saturday, a significant milestone was achieved as a tripartite agreement was formalized between TIPRA Motha, alongside the governments of Tripura and India, in the esteemed presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The primary objective of this agreement is to provide a sustainable resolution to the longstanding issues faced by the indigenous communities of Tripura.

With the signing of this pivotal agreement, Minister Shah highlighted the government's commitment to acknowledging historical injustices, rectifying past grievances, and embracing the current realities as stepping stones toward a promising future for the indigenous populace of the state. He assured all stakeholders in Tripura that their struggle for rights will no longer be necessary, affirming the proactive measures the Indian government intends to take in instituting mechanisms to safeguard their rights.

Speaking at a gathering held at North Block, Shah emphasized the significance of learning from historical mistakes while moving forward, underscoring the need for collective growth and progress. He commended the constructive role played by the Tripura Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA Motha) and other tribal parties, alongside the sincere efforts of the BJP government in Tripura, in facilitating the agreement.

Shah also highlighted the broader efforts of the Modi administration in fostering peace and resolving boundary disputes in the Northeast region, citing 11 previous agreements signed under its tenure. He specifically noted the recent peace accord with the insurgent group National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), indicating that this agreement marks a significant milestone preceding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, signaling a commitment to regional stability and progress.

Before the agreement's signing, TIPRA Motha's leader, Pradyot Debbarma, resorted to a 'fast-unto-death' protest to press for a permanent solution to the indigenous people's issues. However, following assurances from the Central government's mediators, he relented and traveled to the national capital, ultimately consenting to the terms of the pact.
