Truck in US crash leaves driver hanging over bridge; vehicle is towed to safety



On Friday, firefighters successfully rescued the driver of a semi-truck involved in a three-vehicle crash that occurred on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge spanning the Ohio River in the US. The incident, which left the truck teetering over the edge of the bridge, prompted swift action from emergency responders.

According to Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neill, the crash was reported around noon, leading to immediate efforts to extract the trapped driver. Additionally, one other individual involved in the collision was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.

During a press conference, Chief O’Neill detailed the intricate rescue operation, which involved the deployment of a rope system and the use of rappelling techniques to reach the trapped driver. It took approximately 40 minutes to establish the necessary infrastructure and safely extract the driver from the precarious situation. Following the rescue, the driver was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Chief O’Neill commended the firefighters involved in the operation, emphasizing their professionalism, training, and swift response to the emergency. He described the rescue as a testament to the team's preparedness and expertise in handling such challenging scenarios.

The Louisville Metro Police are currently investigating the crash, and as a precautionary measure, the bridge remains closed in both directions. Additionally, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced plans to conduct a safety inspection of the bridge once all vehicles involved in the incident have been removed.
