Trump plans a cabinet position but refuses Vivek Ramaswamy as a running partner

Former President Donald Trump has reportedly declined the idea of having biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as his running mate in the 2024 elections. However, Trump is considering Ramaswamy for a position in his Cabinet if he emerges victorious in the presidential polls, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Ramaswamy, a 38-year-old Indian-American billionaire entrepreneur, initially ran against Trump in the primaries but later endorsed him after his defeat in the Iowa Caucus on January 15. Since then, he has actively campaigned for Trump's re-election and has been seen as a vocal advocate for the former president.

While Ramaswamy's exclusion from the running mate lineup has been reported, there is speculation that he could be considered for a position such as Homeland Security secretary in Trump's potential Cabinet. Some of Trump's allies believe that Ramaswamy's background as an immigrant's son and his public speaking skills could make him well-suited for such a role, particularly in addressing criticisms of Trump's immigration policies.

In response to these reports, Ramaswamy's spokesperson reiterated his commitment to Trump's re-election and potential service in the administration. Ramaswamy's focus remains on driving change in the private sector and reforming the economy, according to the spokesperson.

Speculation about potential Cabinet members for Trump's administration has been circulating, with names like North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Representative Elise Stefanik, and former US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer being mentioned. Additionally, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is reportedly being considered for White House chief of staff.

Trump has expressed optimism about a potential "short list" of running mates, including individuals like former Representative Tulsi Gabbard, Senator Tim Scott, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Representative Byron Donalds, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. However, DeSantis has dismissed the notion, while the other candidates have shown openness to the idea.
