Devoleena Bhattacharjee, renowned for her portrayal of Gopi Bahu in 'Saath Nibhaana Saathiya', revealed on X that Amarnath Ghosh, a distinguished Bharatnatyam and Kuchupudi dancer hailing from Kolkata, tragically met his demise in the United States. Ghosh, a talented artist pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance at Washington University in Saint Louis, was fatally shot during his evening stroll in St Louis, Missouri, as disclosed by Bhattacharjee.
According to Bhattacharjee's account, the assailant, whose identity remains undisclosed, unleashed a barrage of gunfire upon Ghosh while he was peacefully engaged in his routine walk. The incident, occurring on a Tuesday evening, sent shockwaves through the artistic community, leaving Ghosh's loved ones and admirers devastated by the untimely loss.
Expressing profound concern and seeking assistance for the bereaved family, Bhattacharjee implored the Indian embassy in the US, along with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to intervene in the matter. Despite efforts by Ghosh's acquaintances to facilitate the repatriation of his remains, Bhattacharjee lamented the lack of progress on this front, underscoring the urgent need for resolution and closure for the grieving family.
In addition to shedding light on the tragic circumstances surrounding Ghosh's demise, Bhattacharjee provided poignant insights into his personal life, revealing that he was the sole child of his family. With the loss of his mother three years prior and the absence of his father since childhood, Ghosh's untimely passing has left an irreplaceable void, compounding the anguish experienced by his family and friends.
