Two BJP employees were detained in Tamil Nadu for extorting a religious leader

In Tamil Nadu's Mayiladuthurai, two individuals affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) found themselves detained by law enforcement following a complaint lodged by Dharmapuram Adheenam, a revered Tamil Shaivite mutt, alleging coercion and blackmail.

The grievance, submitted by the sibling of Sri La Sri Masilamani Desika Gnanasampanda Paramasarya Swami, detailed the purported blackmailing efforts orchestrated against the pontiff, purportedly involving explicit audio and video materials soliciting financial remuneration.

Acting upon this complaint, authorities apprehended a total of four individuals, namely Kodiyarasu, Srinivas, Vinoth, and Vignesh.

It's worth noting that Vinoth holds the position of BJP's Thanjavur North Youth Wing Secretary, while Vignesh serves as the District Secretary within the same political organization.

The complainant, Viruthagiri, disclosed that Vinod and Senthil, the latter being employed at the mutt, initiated contact with him via WhatsApp, asserting possession of objectionable content featuring the pontiff and issuing threats of dissemination unless substantial monetary demands were met.

Furthermore, Viruthagiri elucidated that the perpetrators resorted to intimidation tactics, including the threat of physical harm and even homicide, should any recourse to legal authorities be contemplated.

Promptly responding to the matter, law enforcement launched an investigation on February 25, culminating in the arrest of the aforementioned individuals under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 120 (b), 307, 506 (ii), and 389.

In an official statement issued by Dharmapuram Adheenam, expressions of gratitude were extended to the police force and Chief Minister MK Stalin for their swift intervention and decisive action in addressing the situation.
