Voting for the Arunachal and Sikkim Assembly elections is scheduled on June 2, not June 4

Following the announcement of the schedule for the Lok Sabha Elections and assembly polls, the Election Commission of India has made a significant adjustment by revising the dates for the counting of votes in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

Initially scheduled for June 4, the counting of votes for the Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim Assembly polls will now take place on June 2.

The decision to revise the counting date stems from the constitutional and legal imperative outlined in Article 324, Article 172(1) of the Constitution of India, and Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Given that the term of both legislative assemblies is set to conclude on June 2, it is incumbent upon the Election Commission to conduct the elections before the cessation of their respective terms.

It is important to note that this alteration pertains solely to the counting of votes for the assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The schedule for the parliamentary constituencies in these states remains unaffected by this change.

The Lok Sabha elections for the year 2024 are slated to occur from April 19 to June 1, spanning seven phases. The Election Commission announced that the results of these elections will be declared on June 4, coinciding with the original counting date for the assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
