Washington University on the shooting of a dancer in Kolkata: Senseless violence

Washington University, where Amarnath Ghosh, a talented Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dancer from Kolkata, pursued his studies, has strongly denounced his tragic killing, describing it as an act of "senseless violence beyond comprehension".

The young dancer, reportedly shot dead by an unidentified assailant in St. Louis, Missouri, has left a profound impact on the community.

In response to this heartbreaking incident, Anna 'Dr G' Gonzalez, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Washington University, expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing the profound pain and anguish felt by Ghosh's family and friends.

Gonzalez remarked that such senseless violence is incomprehensible and devastating, particularly when it occurs within the St. Louis community where the university is located.

The university's statement highlighted the ongoing investigation by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and offered support and assistance to Ghosh's loved ones and the WashU community.

Expressing solidarity with Ghosh's family and friends, the university conveyed heartfelt condolences and pledged to honor his memory and the impact he made during his time at the institution.

Simultaneously, the Indian Consulate in Chicago has taken a strong stance, urging authorities to thoroughly investigate the "reprehensible gun attack" and ensure justice for Ghosh.

Amid these efforts, actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee shared heartbreaking details, revealing that Ghosh, who was pursuing his PhD in the US, was the only child and had lost both his parents. The attack reportedly occurred while Ghosh was taking an evening stroll.
