When two foreign students in Gujarat offered Ramadan prayers, they were attacked



Two individuals have been apprehended by Ahmedabad Police in connection with an assault on foreign students at Gujarat University during Ramadan prayers. The arrested suspects, identified as Hitesh Mewada and Bharat Patel, are facing charges including unlawful assembly, armed assembly, rioting, forgery, causing injury, endangering life, and criminal trespass. 

The incident occurred when a group of men targeted foreign students engaged in nighttime prayers, vandalizing hostel rooms, shouting slogans, and pelting stones, resulting in injuries to two students from Sri Lanka and Tajikistan. A complaint was filed against 25 individuals, prompting the police to form nine probe teams to locate the accused. Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi instructed the police to take strict action, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. 

The injured students are receiving medical treatment, and the university administration has assured security measures for foreign students. The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that the state government is taking decisive action, while opposition parties have criticized the incident and urged central government intervention.
