A six-year-old is stranded 40 feet down a borewell in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh

A six-year-old boy fell into a borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district on Friday, triggering a rescue operation involving multiple agencies. The incident took place around 3 pm in Manika village near the Uttar Pradesh border.

The boy, named Mayank, was playing with friends near an open borewell in a wheat field when he accidentally slipped and fell into the hole. Despite efforts from his friends to help him, Mayank became stuck at a depth of approximately 40 feet.

Upon learning of the situation, Mayank's parents alerted the authorities, prompting the deployment of the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF). Eight excavators were brought in to aid in the rescue efforts.

Despite challenges posed by mud and stubble inside the borewell, officials attempted to establish contact with Mayank using a CCTV camera. Additionally, oxygen is being supplied to the boy through a pipe, while efforts are underway to dig a parallel pit alongside the borewell.

To further bolster the rescue operation, an NDRF team from Varanasi has been summoned. However, unseasonal rains in the area have presented additional obstacles to the ongoing efforts.

The collective response from various agencies underscores the urgency and seriousness with which authorities are approaching the situation, with hopes of safely rescuing Mayank from the borewell.
