About PM Modi's border remarks, the Chinese military said, Situation is generally stable

The Chinese military responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments on the India-China border situation, stating that the present condition is "generally stable." They also emphasized that both countries have maintained effective communication channels to address the standoff in eastern Ladakh.

Senior Colonel Wu Qian, a spokesman for the Chinese Defence Ministry, acknowledged PM Modi's remarks and highlighted the positive and constructive dialogue between the two sides. He expressed that effective communication through diplomatic and military channels has led to positive progress in resolving the standoff.

Wu reiterated the commitment of both nations to reach a mutually acceptable solution as soon as possible to ease tensions along the border.

In his interview, PM Modi underscored the importance of stable and peaceful relations between India and China for the region and the world. He expressed optimism about resolving the prolonged situation on the borders through bilateral engagement.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, also emphasized the significance of sound and stable relations between China and India for regional peace and development.

The border standoff between India and China in eastern Ladakh has led to a freeze in bilateral relations, except for trade, since May 5, 2020. Despite 21 rounds of corps commanders-level talks, significant areas of contention remain, including the disengagement from certain points along the border.

While some progress has been made in disengagement at specific locations like the Galwan Valley, Pangong Lake, Hot Springs, and Jianan Daban (Gogra), India continues to press for further disengagement in areas like Depsang and Demchok. The normalization of relations between the two countries hinges on the resolution of these border issues.
